Saab 900 classic
The first generation Saab 900 (also called Saab 900 classic) was sold between the years 1979-1993. Saab 900 was quite similar to the Saab 99 model when it first came out and was in fact a larger and more comfortable version of the Saab 99. In the U.S. market several retailers had problems with the new concept since the Saab 900 and Saab 99 was strikingly similar. Saab 900 range on the hatchback concept and were in the 3 – and 5-door version. A sedan version was introduced as the 1981 model.
In 1986 the 900-program was widened when Saab launched a convertible edition of the Saab 900 car model. The Saab 900 convertible was manufactured in Uusikaupunki, Finland. The convertible was very successful in the important U.S. market. In the 1987 edition of the Saab 900 model, the look of the front on bumpers chamnged.
Saab 900 is one of Saab’s all time best-known models. The first generation Saab 900 was available as a sedan car (2 doors from the 1984 model and 4 doors from the 1981 model year), hatchback (3 or 5 doors) and convertible (2 doors from the 1987 model year); with a number of engine options that were all two-liter four-cylinder petrol engines, but the fuel delivery (carburetor / injection / turbo) varied. Alse, a 20 cm extended version of the four-door model called the 900 CD, was manufactures between 1981-1986. In addition to the increased scope, this version conatined luxurious furnishings and was only available with turbocharged engine. Only about 500 copies of 900 CDs was made.
